Something Is In Our Water; Prince Edward Island, 2011

The Arctic Red Jellyfish. I was about to jump in the water of the St. Lawrence one morning when I spotted a strange purple mass floating in the sun. I thought, 'I'll find another place down the shore to jump in'. As I looked down the beach I spotted beached jellyfish every few feet that unfortunately, didn't account for the tide that morning. 'Ok, maybe swimming is not the best idea today'.

It was probably a good idea too since Parks Canada indicates that these fellows can leave you with a stinging or mild burning sensation (http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/visit/visit4/visit4b.aspx). Though this can be alleviated by covering yourself with wet sand, the shear amount of jellyfish would most likely make the swimming endeavor difficult. With great fascination, I decided to take out my camera. - CCS.
